Health Information System Unit (HIS)
It is known that Health Information System (HIS) provides decision-makers and planners of the health sector with required information. Using its key functions, including data collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination, HIS ensures the availability of relevant, timely, and high-quality data which will be reported and visualized in tables, charts, and maps.
Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) is one of the six building blocks essential to strengthen health system. HMIS is an intelligent system specifically designed to support planning, management, and decision making in health facilities and organizations.
The unit was established in Northwest Syria in 2018 to collect routine data from the field to help guide health partners like WHO and NGOs to take the right action with the limited resources available.
The Unit has adopted the District Health Information Software (DHIS2) as a platform which is used in more than sixty countries worldwide. DHIS2 is an open-source software for reporting, analyzing, and disseminating data for all health programs developed by the Health Information Systems.
Moreover, forms have been designed and ICD-10 codes (version 2016) has been shortlisted to be applicable and compatible with the Syrian context. On the other hand, doctors and data entry staff have been trained to use the system at health facilities.
Similarly, HIS Unit team try to implement HMIS and use DHIS2 to collect and analyze health data in collaboration with health directorates in Northwest Syria, Health Directorates and WHO.
